Police reported that a 60-year-old man struck two motorcyclists with his Toyota SUV causing severe injuries to both riders on South Federal Highway.
It was reported that the driver was southbound on South Federal Highway in a 2010 Toyota Prado. Two Harley Davidson motorcycles were stopped on the highway while attempting to make a left turn. The Prado failed to acknowledge the motorcycles and struck both of the bikes from the rear.
According to the police, a 37-year-old male riding one of the motorcycles sustained severe injuries in the accident. The other motorcyclist, a 30-year-old, sustained life threatening injuries and both were transported to a nearby hospital immediately upon EMS arriving at the scene.
According to Fort Lauderdale Police Department, the Prado driver sustained only moderate injuries. He was taken to the hospital for treatment as well. One of the motorcyclists was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident, according to first responders who had to stabilize him for transport.
Fort Lauderdale Police Department is investigating the accident. No charges have been filed yet.
