A report says a 21-year-old Naples man died after driving his car into a pond in the gated community called The Strand, off Immokalee Road.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol report, the man was northbound on Strand Boulevard when he failed to navigate a left curve. It was reported that the sedan jumped the curb, slammed through a signpost, and drove into a pond.
The report says a 19-year-old passenger escaped the sinking vehicle and swam to the shoreline, however, the driver did not escape and drowned. FHP reported that divers from the Collier County Sheriff’s Department located the body.
Investigators are continuing to cover the scene.
