After a Three-Vehicle Accident on the Davie Boulevard Overpass to Interstate 95, Report Says a Person was Killed and Two Others were Hospitalized.
Battalion Chief Stephen Gollan of Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue said one person had to be extricated from a car. He commented that the “one car doesn’t even look like a car.”
Fort Lauderdale police spokeswoman Casey Liening said the crash happened in the early hours. Commuters were detoured from Davie Boulevard’s access ramps to I-95 for more than five hours.
Spokeswoman Liening said a driver died at the scene; two others were taken to Broward Health Medical Center and are expected to survive.
The cause of the crash on Davie Boulevard wasn’t immediately known. It’s being investigated by the police department’s DUI Task Force and the Traffic Homicide Unit, and authorities said charges could be pending.
The two people injured in the crash have not been identified. Police said the man who died was Anthony Torres-Loughan, 22, of Hollywood.
The overpass was closed to east and westbound traffic and the northbound and southbound I-95 ramps were closed during most of the morning commute.
