At Least One Person is Dead and Several Persons Suffered Injuries After a Deadly Crash on Dunn Avenue at Interstate 295.
According to officials, the crash happened on the northbound I-295 off-ramp to Dunn Avenue. A 31-year-old Sanderson woman driving an SUV was traveling west on Dunn Avenue approaching the intersection of the I-295 northbound ramp while a sedan driven by a 59-year-old Jacksonville Beach man was turning left from the eastbound left-turn lane of Dunn Avenue to the I-295 northbound entrance ramp.
The Florida Highway Patrol report of the crash said the SUV ran a solid red light, resulting in the two vehicles colliding. The SUV then overturned and crashed into a pole. The woman, along with a 4-year-old boy and a 9-year-old boy were taken to the hospital, where the driver was pronounced dead.
A man was said to have been in the SUV at the time of the crash. After the crash, the man ran away from the scene, FHP says. If anyone has information about the crash, you are asked to call First Coast Crime Stoppers at 1-866-845-TIPS or call FHP at *347.
Both of the boys were treated for minor injuries. The driver of the sedan, along with two women passengers, also had minor injuries.
