According to Veda Coleman-Wright, public information officer for the Sheriff’s Office, an off-duty deputy witnessed the crash and stopped to help the driver.
Consequently, report says a Broward Sheriff’s deputy responding to a crash on I-95 struck the off-duty Sheriff’s Office deputy who had stopped to help. It was also said that the driver of the Toyota Corolla who had crashed her car was also struck.
Coleman-Wright said the Toyota’s driver and the off-duty deputy, both women, were standing on the shoulder next to the guardrail when it occurred. The responding deputy reportedly lost control, side-swiping another Sheriff’s Office vehicle and then hitting the off-deputy deputy and the driver.
Coleman-Wright confirmed in a report that the road was wet at the time of the crash.
The names of the deputies and the driver in the incident were not disclosed.
The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating the crash and the Broward Sheriff’s Office is investigating the portion involving the deputy.
