A 66-year-old man suffered serious injuries on Tuesday night after he was struck by a reckless hit-and-run driver.
Troopers with the Florida Highway Patrol said they responded to a crash at U.S. 41 and Elkcam Boulevard in Port Charlotte around 7:45 p.m.
Authorities revealed that the 66-year-old Port Charlotte man was riding a bike heading north in the left turn lane of U.S. 41 when he was hit from behind by a car that was also heading north in the left turn lane of U.S. 41.
The driver left the scene of the crash.
Rescue crews took the bicyclist to a local hospital with serious injuries.
