The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office says a man is dead after his car crashed into the back of a semi-truck on Monument Road.
Officials said the crash happened around 1:15 p.m. in the 1600 block of Monument Road.
Police say a Toyota RAV4 and a semi-truck with a trailer were traveling west on Monument Road.
For unknown reasons, the Toyota drifted into the semi’s path and crashed into the back of the trailer.
According to police, after the collision, the Toyota became wedged underneath the trailer and was dragged for about 75 yards until the semi came to a complete stop.
The driver of the Toyota was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The driver of the semi was not injured during the crash.
Police say the deceased driver was not wearing a seatbelt and authorities believe speed and/or distracted driving may have played a role in the crash.
