A man was killed Monday morning in a hit-and-run crash in southwest Miami-Dade.
Miami-Dade Police Detective Argemis Colome said that officers were called to the scene just before 5:30 a.m. and found the victim dead in the roadway. Personal items, including shoes and what appeared to be a backpack, were scattered nearby.
Detectives were seen canvassing the street all morning looking for any clues that could help them piece together exactly what happened and, at one point, a few detectives went from home to home looking for any possible surveillance cameras.
Some local residents said they never heard anything unusual overnight and are shocked that something like this would happen on their street.
Police believe that the victim was struck by a 2007 Nissan Sentra that now has front-end damage. They are unsure of the vehicle’s color.
Authorities have identified the victim as 78-year-old Rafael Duyos Jr.
Anyone with further information is asked to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-8477.
