Report says a motorcyclist, 24-year-old John Johnson of Jacksonville, died after a two-vehicle crash on State Road 13 in St. Johns County.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the crash involved a motorcycle driven by Johnson and a vehicle, driven by a 31-year-old St. Augustine resident. It reportedly happened on northbound State Road 13 at Braaschville Road, just south of Roberts Road.
Johnson was reportedly traveling southbound behind a line of vehicles when traffic slowed for a vehicle in the same lane making a left turn.
Consequently, Johnson crossed over into the northbound lane and proceeded to travel southbound at a high rate of speed. FHP said Johnson’s motorcycle collided with the vehicle attempting a left turn and was thrown from his motorcycle.
Report says the motorcyclist has been flown to a hospital, but he did not survive his injuries.
All lanes of S.R. 13 were blocked for several hours. The St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office said traffic was diverted from the area and drivers were asked to take alternate routes.
