An 89-Year-Old Man was Pinned Under His Fridge After an SUV Crashed Into a Port Charlotte Home on Saturday.
According to officials, this crash happened at about 7 p.m. along Easy Street.
The tan SUV rammed through half the house before stopping in the kitchen. One of the homeowners had his fridge fall on him as a result of the crash, leaving him pinned.
Before Charlotte County Fire and EMS arrived neighbors, including a Punta Gorda firefighter, were able to lift the fridge off of him.
Authorities said the man suffered a broken ankle and was flown to Lee Memorial. His wife was also home at the time but was not injured. The driver of the SUV also offered minor injuries.
The building department has deemed the home unsafe and the Red Cross is helping the couple find a place to stay.
The Florida Highway Patrol said the investigation continues and charges are pending.
