Officials have Arrested an Impaired Driver Following an Early-Morning Crash on Alico Road in which One Person was Seriously Injured.
Florida Highway Patrol troopers and Lee County deputies responded to the crash which led to the closure of Eastbound lanes of Alico Road near Granada Lakes.
Troopers said a 21-year-old Fort Myers man was driving west on the inside eastbound lane of Alico Road just before 2 a.m. on Friday.
A 41-year-old woman from Fort Myers was driving east on Alico Road when the front of the 21-year-old driver’s car collided with the front of hers.
Authorities say the woman, who was not wearing a seatbelt suffered serious injuries in the crash. The man had minor injuries.
Rescue crews said they used the “jaws of life” to free the woman from the vehicle.
The crash left debris scattered across Alico Road.
The driver who reportedly caused the crash was arrested and booked into the Lee County Jail.
He is facing 4 counts of DUI with damage to property or person of another.
